Shelia,

I'm sorry to hear about your baby, Maggie Mae. Please take comfort in knowing that we are praying for a successful and rapid recovery for your Dachshund.

Unfortunately I don't know of any charities that take on that kind of work.

My Maggie Mae is 3 or 31/2 years old. She went down one week ago
Friday. I did not know that dauschaunds were prone to this type of thing but when I took her to the vet I could not afford the $5,000 for the surgery. I am trying the next best thing which is the steroid treatment on her, She shows some improvemeny but we are into week number two and she still is not walking. I am desparate to try and find some type of charity that might will help to pay for the surgery aroung Cheyenne, WY which is where we live. I did find Helping Hands in Colorado but they only help people in CO. I don't know what to do at this point. I was told there was still a chance for her to have the surgery if I could come up with a way to pay for it and it work for her but I have not found anything as of yet. Any leads would help. All of you who have had dogs who have had the surgery and it has worked for them I praise you for being able to to that for your pet. My Maggie is my baby pretty much too but she is not herself at all since this has happened and I just which I had the insurance on her to cover it before it happened so she would have already been able to have the surgery.

Thanks for the relpy so quickly. I feel a little bit better about what I am going to hear tomorrow. I have never been as upset about anything in my entire life. He is like one of my kids. He is only 7, and my dachshunds usually live to be 16+. I had my baby Morti, put down last Aug. at 16 yrs. I don't know if I can handle another devestating loss so soon. Please pray for us.
Thanks! Jayla

Harley's Mom, I'm sorry to hear about your boy. I was completely devastated when I took Odie in that morning when he couldn't walk. I know exactly how you feel.

Odie may have injured himself on a Saturday. By Sunday he wasn't playing. Monday he was at the Vet with a ruptured disk. So 24-48 Hrs is not unusual for a good chance of recovery.

The total cost of the procedure included surgery, care, meds, tests, etc. The Myelogram is an x-ray examination by a radiologist to determine the extent of the damage in the spine. My Doctor want to follow it up with a CT (Computed Tomography).

It also included four or five follow-up visits over the next 3 months.

I'm going through this as of Saturday. I am completely devestated and can't hold myself together. I am so pissed that even the emergency clinic in my area said that it would be Monday before they can do anything for Harley. I know for the best chance of recovery, the surgery needs to take place 24-48 hours after the rupture. I'm so afraid that it is going to be to late for them to do anything. He is going to have the Myleo-something in the morning "when they can fit him in". I hope I just don't totally loose it in the surgeons office, and kick someones a**. Was the $5 g's just for the surgery, or does that include care, meds, tests etc.?

Odie's surgery ran over $5,000. The pet hospital said they took just about every pet insurance on the market but you should check first before buying a policy.
